You do not need a referral to see a therapist at Hunter Hand Rehabilitation Centre, although a referral is preferred to ensure continuity of care. Private patients may receive a rebate from their health fund if cover includes Occupational Therapy. HICAPS is available at Hunter Hand Rehabilitation Centre for instant rebate from most heath funds.
A written referral from your treating doctor/specialist is required for patients covered by these groups. You will also need to bring your insurance details to your initial appointment. Hunter Hand Rehabilitation Centre will bill the relevant insurer/agency so there will be no out of pocket expense on the day of treatment.
Patients who have a chronic or terminal medical condition may be eligible to claim a maximum of five treatments per calendar year under Medicare. If approved by your GP, patients eligible under the Chronic Disease Management scheme will need to bring a referral from their GP and a copy of the GP Management Plan. Please bring copies of all relevant x-rays, operation reports, bone scans, MRI, ultrasound or any other investigations with you to your first appointment.
